As the name suggests, the measuring shovel is a shovel and hoe with inbuilt measurements or a ruler. The shovel was invented by a 10-year-old Maddox Prichard while in the 4th grade as part of a class project. 

As it turns out, Maddox’s invention earned him several awards, including The Household Organization and Tools Award. So, in 2018, he patented his invention.

After pitching his business idea, Kevin O’Leary, together with Lori Greiner, offered a $40,000 investment. In return, they wanted a 30% stake in the business so they could license the shovel to a company.

Daniel Lubetzk, a guest shark, also offered a $40,000 investment. However, he wanted a 25% stake and his interest was to manufacture the product. In the end, Maddox settled for Kevin and Lori’s joint offer.
